about submissions.

We are currently closed for submissions for our fourth issue!

We accept submissions from writers aged 12-26 from anywhere in the world through email or our submissions form! Decisions are made on a rolling basis, and you will be notified via email if your work is accepted.

We are also offering free feedback to artists from marginalized backgrounds of any medium upon request, so be sure to include whether you’d like to receive feedback along with your submission if you are a member of a marginalized community.

faq.

  1. What do you accept?
    • We accept submissions of all written and visual mediums (e.g. poetry, short stories, essays, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, hybrid works, etc.). Feel free to be bold!
  2. Are you an online or print publication?
    • As of now, Iris Youth Magazine is a strictly online publication, and to keep our issues free to read and submit, we will not be able to produce print issues.
  3. Is there a fee to submit or read issues?
    • No! Iris Youth Magazine is a completely volunteer-run, nonprofit organization. At Iris Youth Magazine, we aim to make art accessible, both for artists looking to put their work out into the world and for readers looking to gain inspiration. You will never have to pay a fee to submit or read our issues.
  4. Is there a theme?
    • Iris Youth Magazine seeks to uplift art and writing from youth creatives exploring a vast range of subjects and topics; thus, we choose not to limit submissions to a single theme.
  5. How many times can I submit?
    • For each submission, we accept a maximum of 10 pages for prose, 10 art pieces, and 10 poems; however, we ask that you keep all pieces in a single submission and refrain from submitting more than once per submission period.
  6. Will I receive feedback if my work is not accepted?
    • Yes! All requests for customized feedback for artists from marginalized communities will be fulfilled, regardless of acceptance status, with praise, suggestions, and technical advice provided by our editors. We encourage new creatives to submit without reservation!
  7. When can I expect a response?
    • We typically respond to submissions within 1-2 weeks; however, if you have yet to receive a response within one month, feel free to send us an inquiry via our email at irisyouthmagazine@gmail.com.
